Did We Compromise National Security?

Every day we continue to learn more information about the Boston Marathon terrorists. Here are some of the latest disturbing developments.

According to Fox News' Megyn Kelly, the mother of the Tsarnaev brothers, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, knew as early as 2011 that her older son Tamerlan had been radicalized. This is because in 2011, Tamerlan sent messages to family in Russia saying that he was “willing to die for Islam.” This information came from two officials with knowledge of the Capitol Hill briefing given to lawmakers this week by the FBI.

The mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, spoke out at a press conference in the southern Russian city of Makhachkala, implying that all of this is some sort of conspiracy. She apparently believes that video shows Tamerlan did not die in a firefight with police, but was handcuffed and taken alive. She also says that according to what she's been told by Dzhokhar's lawyers, he is unable to speak, move, or write so any information we've learned from questioning is not true. She also says, “America took my kids away from me.” All of this comes after chilling comments yesterday, where Zubeidat Tsarnaeva told CNN: “If they are going to kill him. I don’t care. My oldest son is killed, so I don’t care. I don’t care if my youngest son is going to be killed today. I want the world to hear this. And, I don’t care if I am going to get killed too. And I will say Allahu Akbar!“

This is all pretty unbelievable, but it doesn't end there. Fox News' Megyn Kelly reports that the FBI was unhappy – she uses the word “stunned” – that the judge showed up to read Dzhokhar his Miranda rights within just 16 hours after he was in custody. FBI officials were under the impression that they would have 48 hours to glean valuable information from the terrorist due to the “public safety exception.” But something happened with the timing and their investigation was cut short. According to those two officials with knowledge of the FBI briefing on Capitol Hill, the FBI feels as though national security may have been compromised as a result. Officials tell the Associated Press that after being Mirandized, Dzhokhar stopped talking immediately. How was that allowed to happen?

Other information we've learned points to Dzhokhar getting money by selling marijuana, while his older brother Tamerlan and his family were supported by taxpayer welfare benefits for some time while he was being radicalized. Isn't that great?
