Gov. Chafee bans on-the-clock interviews

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Governor Lincoln Chafee has instituted a new policy banning state employees from going on talk radio while on the clock.

Chafee spokesman Michael Trainor tells The Providence Journal , the policy is trying to prevent state workers from supporting "ratings-driven, for-profit programming" while being paid by the state.

The new policy applies to all state employees, including Governor Chafee.

The governor will continue to talk to news reporters only at the local radio stations.
