Leading from behind

Can you believe that Barack Obama has been in office for more than four years and he is just now taking his first trip as president to Israel, our closest ally? Nevertheless, Obama met with Israeli President Shimon Peres earlier today where they reaffirmed the point that the greatest danger is a nuclear Iran. However many people remain skeptical that the Obama administration is truly sincere in saying that all options are on the table when it comes to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon … something that Iran is rapidly advancing towards, despite sanctions.

President Peres also stated the danger of Hezbollah supporting the Assad regime in Syria. This leads to the other top story of the day, which is the alleged chemical weapons attacks in Syria. While it is unclear at this point which side is responsible for the attacks and whether chemical weapons were in fact used, what's clear is that there is an explosive situation in Syria which will require the president to make some tough decisions. Let's remember that Obama himself said that the use of chemical weapons in Syria was a “red line.”

Obama from August 2012: “We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground that a red line for us is, we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized. That would change my calculus, that would change my equation.”

So at what point does the administration make a decision on how to address the situation in Syria, or will this just become another situation where America is leading from behind?

- We've got North Korea threatening to blow us up with nukes, and releasing a video just yesterday showing them blowing up our capital.

- We've got the Chinese engaged in cyber warfare, with a Chinese national and NASA researcher being arrested just yesterday trying to flee back to China with top secret information.

- Clearly we know how well Barack Obama has done on leading on the issue of Iran achieving nuclear capability, with Obama himself stating just last week that Iran is about a year away from achieving a nuclear weapon.

- While Barack Obama was giving his state of the union address, we had two Russian nuclear-armed bombers circling over Guam.

What has Obama done about any of these developments? Nothing. The only real action the president seems to take is to kiss the backside of the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt by giving them F-16s, tanks and monetary aid.
