The extravagance of the Obama's lifestyle as millions of Americans are struggling under his failed recovery is tone deaf, to say the least. According to the Weekly Standard, “In the first three months of the year, members of the first family have been on three vacations, averaging a vacation a month.” A vacation a month! We had the first family in Hawaii at the beginning of the new year, then their was the girls' trip to Aspen as the President golfed with Tiger Woods in Florida. Now the first daughters are on Spring Break in the Bahamas, and let's not forget that they've already started making their summer plans for their vacation in Martha's Vineyard.
All of this looks particularly bad if you put it in the context of what is happening politically and around the country. While the White House remains closed to public tours because we apparently can't afford it, we can afford to have the President jet off to Florida to pal around with Tiger Woods at a cost of $180,000 per flight hour.
It also doesn't help that we are learning about extravagant trips on the part of the Vice President, spending $585,000 for one night in a Paris hotel. Then we learn that the price tag jumps if you include the $321,665 he paid for limo service while in Paris. Just unbelievable.
Now yes, I understand that these costs include the traveling entourage and the extremely important security detail for the President, his family and the Vice President, but why the need for all these trips to begin with? All presidents deserve a vacation, but this is getting a bit absurd, especially considering the spectacle of the White House being closed due to budget cuts.
