No immediate crisis?

If you want to see the result of what happens if we don't get our debt crisis under control, look to what is happening in Europe right now – Greece, Italy, Spain, Cyprus. Make no mistake about it, I believe that we have a debt crisis and I believe we need to do something about it now. I was disappointed with John Boehner over the weekend agreeing with Barack Obama that we don't have an immediate debt crisis. Every minute that we waste debating whether or not we even have a crisis is another minute that we are adding to our national debt, which is money that will some day have to be paid back by our kids and grandkids. I refuse to sit back and allow for this generational theft to continue.

Speaking of theft, consider the pending bailout plan of Cyprus. Just the idea of the government stealing from the bank accounts of its citizens caused a run on the banks and a subsequent freeze of their banking system. A wealth tax may seem far-fetched, but it's really not, especially when you are a country that has reached its limits. Eventually if we don't get our spending under control, we will reach that limit. We are already at the point where taxing all income above $250,000 at 100%, taking all the corporate profits from the top Fortune 500 companies and seizing all of the wealth/assets of America's billionaires wouldn't be enough to sustain our government spending for one year. That's the kind of spending problem we are currently facing. At some point, our children will have to pay the price for this.

It will take bold, principled leadership in Washington to get this done. Republican House Speaker John Boehner says that he trusts President Obama and that they are “trying to bridge some big differences.” I personally cannot trust Obama. He is someone who once told voters to “vote for revenge.” He has spent much of his time as president demonizing Republicans and demagoguing their plans. I don't trust people who talk that way about me so why should the Republicans? I believe that Obama's objective is to destroy the Republican Party and radically transform the country that I love.
