What if I told you that I had a plan that would increase your taxes and/or costs, increase the cost of goods and services, deplete the quality of those goods and services, force you to buy something you may not want or need, potentially effect your job or your hours at work, deny you of privacy and freedom and add trillions to our long-term national debt? That is essentially what Obama and the Democrats are forcing upon the American people. It's no wonder ObamaCare is so unpopular! And yet the Republicans fighting to stop ObamaCare are the ones being labeled “arsonists,” “kamikazes,” “terrorists?” The people who should be called names are those who are forcing us to accept it!
We, the American people, deserve better. We are not prepared to surrender our healthcare to big government. Since when has big government done ANYTHING efficiently, providing better or quality services, given the American people a better return on their investment, or actually solved the “problem” it set out to fix? The battle to impose ObamaCare on the American people is being waged by idealistic liberals who may be well-intentioned but are convinced that government is the solution to everything problem.
Today the House voted to defund ObamaCare. As we know, even getting to this point wasn't easier and it isn't about to get any easier. Legislation will now be sent to the Senate to fund the rest of the government through the continuing resolution except ObamaCare. While Ted Cruz has intimated that even a filibuster may be on the table, even achieving that may prove difficult with Senate rules but it's not impossible.
Nonetheless, the PR battle to spin the story is in full swing. We have Jay Carney threatening another recession and economic calamity at the hands of Republicans. Obama is on the road today, warning people that Republicans are willing to “throw our economy back into crisis by refusing to pay our country's bills or shutting down the government.” This was to be expected. If the media reported it accurately, the American people would understand that it is Obama and the Democrats who are willing to shut down the government in order to impose ObamaCare on the American people.
Barack Obama's position on coal was made abundantly clear in 2008 when he told the San Francisco Chronicle the following: “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.” And we can't forget Obama's White House advisor just a few months ago in the NYTimes saying that a “war on coal is exactly what's needed” to fight climate change.
Well that day has finally come. Today the EPA will move forward with a proposal to set carbon dioxide limits for new power plants, which is a first. In order to achieve these caps in emissions, plants will be forced to use “carbon-capture technology,” which is very expensive and not even readily available. In other words, it will be virtually impossible or at least not financially viable to build new coal-fired plants in America.
The Heritage Foundation has done the research on the impact of coal regulations on our economy. If Obama's regulations succeed, here's what we can expect by 2030:
- Destroy more than 500,000 jobs,
- Cause a family of four to lose more than $1,000 in annual income, and
- Increase electricity prices by 20 percent.
Way to go, Obama! Another ideological battle being waged at the expense of American jobs and our economy.
The Obama administration is waging another battle, which hasn't gotten a lot of mainstream media coverage.
Do you realize that Obama's Justice Department is actively trying to trap children in poor performing schools? For a man who claims that we need to invest more in education in nearly every speech he makes, it's clear that Obama values dumping more money into government education (which hasn't proven to produce better results) over innovative ways to deliver better education to poor children.
If you aren't aware, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has done a remarkable job revamping his state's education system. Parents are actually given choices of where to send their kids to school and thousands of low-income children have vouchers available to them so they can attend private schools if they choose. Choice, freedom, competition – All of this should be a blessing for families who want so badly for their children to get a decent education.
But apparently the Obama administration doesn't agree. Obama's Justice Department is seeking to block Louisiana from awarding vouchers for the next school year. Here's how the Washington Post – yes, the Washington Post – describes it:
“NINE OF 10 Louisiana children who receive vouchers to attend private schools are black. All are poor and, if not for the state assistance, would be consigned to low-performing or failing schools with little chance of learning the skills they will need to succeed as adults. So it’s bewildering, if not downright perverse, for the Obama administration to use the banner of civil rights to bring a misguided suit that would block these disadvantaged students from getting the better educational opportunities they are due.
The Justice Department has petitioned a U.S. District Court to bar Louisiana from awarding vouchers for the 2014-15 school year to students in public school systems that are under federal desegregation orders, unless the vouchers are first approved by a federal judge. The government argues that allowing students to leave their public schools for vouchered private schools threatens to disrupt the desegregation of school systems.”
Barack Obama may talk a good game when it comes to education, but only done in the way HE wants – by government and for teachers unions – rather than the way parents want. Which do you think knows best when it comes to your child's education?
