Rise of Radical Islam

I believe that Boston and Benghazi are testaments to this administration's failure to recognize that we are at war with radical Islamist jihadis. While this clearly doesn't fit into the Obama administration's narrative that radical Islam is on the decline and al Qaeda is on the run, his failure to recognize the real problem here is causing serious long-term harm to our security. Looking back through the prism of history, we will see how dangerous this time truly has been for America and the world.

We've had a lot of movement in recent days on both Boston and Benghazi. Let's start with Benghazi.

The administration has done everything it can to brush off Benghazi, hoping that those searching for answers will eventually just give up. Hillary Clinton famously shouted, “What difference does it make?” Earlier this week, White House spokesman Jay Carney brushed off Benghazi stating “It happened a long time ago.” Obama himself claimed earlier this week not to know anything about those who want to come forward and tell their story but are being blocked by his administration. But this week, Fox News has been airing an interview Adam Housley conducted with a special operator with intimate knowledge on Benghazi. This person wants to share his story, but at this point cannot fully reveal classified information. That all may change if lawyers attempting to represent these whistle blowers are finally cleared and these people can appear at a hearing on Benghazi to take place next Wednesday. Also this week, after eight months, the FBI suddenly decided to release photos of individuals wanted for questioning on the Benghazi attack.

On the Boston terrorist attack, Janet “Sherlock” Napolitano had declared that the Tsarnaev brothers were lone wolfs who acted alone. But now we get the news that three more people are in custody, going as far as to throw away evidence in Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's dorm room and then lying about it to authorities. Information released from the interviews with these three college pals of Dzhokhar reveal that he had said a month before the Boston bombings that he knew how to make a bomb. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee has set a hearing from next week on the Boston bombings where hopefully we can learn and adapt from our intelligence failures. The fact that the FBI investigated Suspect 1 Tamerlan, the CIA put him on a watch list, the DHS was aware he went to Russia and then he had this YouTube page filled with radical Islamic jihadists … why weren't all these pieces put together or shared?

So we have these two stories moving simultaneously, along with another story that hasn't gotten a lot of attention: Taliban marks start of 'monumental' spring offensive with deadly attack. As Barack Obama has set a date for our withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban is ready to swoop in. Already, Americans have been targeted and killed by the Taliban including the first American diplomat since Ambassador Chris Stevens to be killed. From April 8, 2013:

Family, friends and State Department colleagues on Sunday were mourning the first death of an American diplomat on duty since Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed in the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11 last year.

Anne Smedinghoff, 25, was one of five Americans killed in a car bomb attack on Saturday in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday. Three of the dead were U.S. service members and the fifth a civilian employee of the Defense Department, Kerry said …

A sixth American civilian working with the U.S. government was killed in a separate attack in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, ISAF said in a statement.

Speaking of Afghanistan, did you see the recent Pew survey of Muslims around the world? It was a four year survey conducted in a total of 39 countries and territories on three continents. In Afghanistan, as well as Palestinian territories, about 40% of Muslims say that attacking civilians to defend Islam is often or sometimes justified. A majority of Muslims in several countries such as Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq and Palestinian territories believe that it is OK to stone someone to death in the cases of adultery or apostasy (converting from Islam).

This is not to say that moderate, peaceful Muslims do not exist but we cannot ignore the fact that radical Muslims do exist and are at war with us. The fact that this administration goes as far as to scrub FBI manuals and declare violence in the name of Allah to be “workplace violence” is dangerous and will not allow us to adequately address the problem. According to U.S. officials and private counterterrorism analysts, “The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s failure to recognize political Islam as a driver of jihadist terrorism is partly to blame for the FBI not identifying one of the Boston Marathon bombers in 2011 as a security risk.” We have become dumb on this issue, all in the name of political correctness.
