The Smoking IRS Gun?

Despite the administration's insistence that the scandals swirling around his administration are phony, each day we come to learn more of the truth.

John Sexton at Breitbart has discovered what many have described as the “smoking gun” in the IRS scandal and particularly for IRS official Lois “I plead the Fifth” Lerner. He has uncovered a video of Lerner from 2010 where she discusses the political pressure surrounding the IRS to do something about the flood of money pouring into the 2010 mid-term election. This was the result of the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling decided in January 2010.

Lerner told a group at Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy just weeks before the mid-term election, "So everybody is screaming at us right now 'Fix it now before the election. Can't you see how much these people are spending?'" Lerner goes on to explain that she won't be able to judge if organizations have gone too far in their campaigning until she sees their tax forms next year.

There's no doubt that the Citizens United case was highly criticized by many including Obama himself in his State of the Union Address. But like adding fuel to the fire, the fury over the decision was no doubt emphasized by one key thing: The rise of the Tea Party. The Tea Party, emboldened and outraged by the prospect of ObamaCare, became a powerful grassroots movement in 2010. This is exactly what Obama feared in the wake of Citizens United, and throughout the government it became the unspoken mission of some to make sure that it couldn't happen again.

Enter: The IRS enhanced scrutiny of Tea Party groups around this same time that Lois Lerner is feeling political pressure to do something about these groups.

Needless to say, we've come a long way from rogue agents in Cincinnati. The more you think about the fact that this was the lie that the administration thought they could sell us is downright insulting. Did they really think that their concocted, fake story would hold water? It makes you wonder what other lies they've tried to spread that have gone unchecked.

An investigation has now been launched into the “inappropriate communication between the FEC (where Lois Lerner used to work) and the IRS, and there are reports that Lois Lerner used her previous position within the FEC to try and silence political candidates.

Another point of outrage is the fact that Lois Lerner is still collecting a paycheck! Not to mention the fact that other IRS officials working within the unit in charge of targeting Tea Party groups have been promoted.

There are even more questions as we dig deeper into this “phony” scandal.

According to an IRS employee, as revealed by the House Ways and Means Committee investigation, Tea Party groups are still be targeted for enhanced scrutiny to this day.

Now we have a conservative film maker who, in hindsight, is wondering whether the IRS targeted him for enhanced scrutiny after he agreed to produce the film, written by Dinesh D’Souza, “2016: Obama’s America.” The timing is awfully suspicious, and this IRS scandal has confirmed many of our suspicions, which were once relegated to fringe, right-wing conspiracy theories.

And where do we stand on Carter Hull's testimony that brought the targeting of Tea Party groups all the way to the office of the Chief Counsel, which is an Obama appointee? The last we heard, according to the Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew, nobody has yet to ask IRS Chief Counsel William Wilkins if he knew about such targeting. Wouldn't you think that is kind of an important piece of the puzzle?

The bottom line is that the IRS scandal is real, it is big and spreading to other agencies and beyond Tea Party groups, and every American has a right to know exactly how this government has abused its power and what is being done to correct it.
