Esteban Santiago, the 26-year-old man accused of killing 5 and wounding 6 others at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport, made his first appearance in federal court on Monday. During the 15-minute hearing, Santiago was informed that he faces the death penalty for last week's shooting rampage.
Investigators are still trying to piece together a motive for suspect.
The hearing comes three days after Santiago allegedly opened fire at the baggage area of the airport with a 9mm handgun.
Surveillance footage recently obtained by TMZ captures the moment the 26-year-old Iraq War veteran pulled his gun from his waistband and began opening fire on unsuspecting travelers.
