As House Majority Whip Steve Scalise remains in serious condition following a mass assassination attempt during last week’s GOP baseball practice in Northern Virginia, MSNBC host Joy Reid continues to take shots at the republican lawmaker, saying the representative is a homophobic racist who attended “white nationalist” events.

Speaking on ‘Morning Joy,’ the liberal host asked guests whether the media should “ignore” Scalise’s “controversies” after the GOP legislator was severely injured during the mass shooting.

“It’s a delicate thing, because obviously everybody is wishing the congressman well and hoping that he recovers, but Steve Scalise has a history we’ve all been forced to sort of ignore on race,” said Reid. “He did come to leadership after some controversy over attending a White nationalist event […] He also co-sponsored a bill to amend the constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.”

Reid then attacked the congressman over his support for recent legislation, including the GOP healthcare bill and his support for the second amendment.

“He voted for the House healthcare bill which would gut healthcare for millions of people including three million children and he co-sponsored a bill to repeal the ban on semi-automatic weapons,” she added.

“Because he is in jeopardy and everybody is pulling for him, are we required in a moral sense to put that aside for the moment?” Reid asked.
