Margaret Cushing "Meg" Whitman (born August 4, 1956) is an American businesswoman and Republican candidate for Governor of California. Whitman was Chief Executive Officer and President of eBay from 1998 to 2008.
Whitman has served as an executive in numerous large companies, including The Walt Disney Company, DreamWorks, Procter & Gamble, and Hasbro, in addition to eBay.
A native of Long Island, New York, Whitman is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School.
In February 2009 she announced her candidacy for Governor of California. She won the Republican primary on June 8, 2010. She will face ex-governor Jerry Brown in the November election. If successful, Whitman will be the first woman to serve as governor of California.
She is the fourth wealthiest woman in the state of California with a net worth of $1.3 billion in 2010.
