America, the country I love, a country that has afforded me the opportunity to pursue a dream, allowing me to be successful, is in desperate need of a course correction. People ask me all the time, "Hannity, what can I do? What can our country do? We know what the problems are, but what are the solutions?’ Well, I listened to your concerns, and what follows is my list of agenda items that would have an immediate positive impact and help America get back on track; these are my solutions. It is no secret that the current path we are on is unsustainable.
Our Constitution begins with three simple and profound words; "We The People." It does not begin with "We The Government" or "We The Politicians." We do have co-equal branches of government, and enumerated powers, but these words by our framers very clearly place the responsibility of good governance on us; We The People.
Our founding document, The Declaration of Independence, reminds us clearly of our responsibilities as a people. Its author, Thomas Jefferson, outlines the need for such a Declaration. To be clear, I am not suggesting at this point in American history the need or desire to abolish the government, and I am never happy to hear talk of secession. I am suggesting that America is at a tipping point, and is a country in desperate need of a major course correction. It is self-evident that government today has become an increasing burden. Government is now an obstacle in people’s lives, obstructing the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
Like my friend and colleague, Mark Levin, I believe the true long term remedy to modern day problems lies within the Constitution. In this document, our framers offer a path to right wrongs and correct injustices. Levin has offered refreshing, long term solutions to many of our problems in his latest book, "The Liberty Amendments". Levin describes America today as being, "a post constitutional America." I would hope State Legislators may heed his call for such conventions, and use the power, and authority, granted to them under the Constitution. We The People are able, and should, regain control over an excessive federal bureaucracy.
The immediate challenge of today's multitude of problems is what we must face directly. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Instead, I propose to offer a solutions oriented agenda; one that will have as its main focus, the reversal of the overwhelming American decline.
Ronald Reagan asked rhetorically in a speech at CPAC in 1974 "Is it a third party we need?" He concluded what was needed then was a “Revitalized second party, with no pale pastels, but bold colored differences.”
Today, Congress has some of the lowest approval ratings in its history, and most Americans see little difference between the two major political parties. This is not a Republican or Democratic document, but a document offering solutions to some of today's most pressing problems.
If you are a politician, Republican or Democrat, it's time to step up, be bold, solve problems, and ignore personal ambition. It is time for a "REVITALIZED GOVERNMENT;” A government that is limited in nature, constitutional, and serves the people.
