Nancy Pelosi has the Republican Party all figured out. Are you ready for this? According to Nancy Pelosi, the GOP is essentially at war with the government.
Pelosi: “By and large the approach that the Republicans take is that they are there to shrink the role of government to a point where really — it recalls to mind the statement of President Washington, who cautioned against a party — a political party at war with its own government. So if you don’t believe in government, then, bless their hearts, they act upon their beliefs.”
Don’t believe in government? Nancy Pelosi is incapable of understanding that there is a happy medium between no government and a large, burdensome, bloated government that she and her Democrat cohorts want for America. Conservatives are for limited government, though some actions on the part of the GOP in recent history may make you question their dedication to this principle. To a liberal like Nancy Pelosi, we either accept the irresponsible growth in big government or you don't want any government, which will lead to dirty air and water and sick children to fend for themselves.
Pelosi: “We don’t want any more government than we need, but we respect the public role, in public-private partnerships, in putting a referee on the field, a cop on — a referee for — whether it’s to monitor clean air, clean water, food safety, a cop on the beat for the protection of our neighborhoods.”
See what I mean? Pelosi implies that Republicans do not respect the government's role in clean air and water, food safety or public safety. This is nonsense! There are smart ways to run government, and then there are the big, bloated ways to see our government expand way, way beyond its basic functions.
Also, I find that first line laughable when Pelosi claims that we don't want any more government than we need. Apparently we need to spend $300,000 on a robot-squirrel or we need 20 government agencies to operate 56 government programs dedicated to financial literacy. Based on the reaction we got from Democrats over cutting just 2.4% of government spending, we can safely assume that this is nothing but lip-service from Nancy Pelosi.
Unfortunately, this line from Pelosi is nothing new and I'm pretty sure the American people see right through it.
