Democrats Betting On Raising Taxes To Win Elections?
President Obama and many Democratic leaders in Congress are getting ready for a battle over taxes in the final weeks before the upcoming congressional elections The Washington Post reports { Article}. Dems hope that their plan to eliminate tax breaks for the rich resonates with voters who have lost jobs or homes in the past few years. While not without risk, Democrats hope their plan will force Republicans to defend tax breaks for a few, wealthy individuals. “Raising taxes is usually not exactly the best move for a party,” said Sean. “But I’m assuming they think this is the one thing that can definitely energize their base and get people riled up over,” Sean added sarcastically. “But [Democrats] think the only way to raise revenues is to raise taxes.”

Sean invited Jay Sekulow and Michael Gross back to the program to continue the debate over the controversial plan to build a Mosque near the World Trade Center site. Attorney Jay Sekulow, against the building of the Mosque, questioned where the funding for the project was coming from. “The last report on how much money this organization [that wants to build the Mosque] had in the bank was about $18,000. Yet they’re about to raise $130 million for this Mosque. The question of course is where is this money coming from? We know this Imam has taken money from organizations that are affiliated with terrorist groups. He also refuses to answer whether Hamas is a terrorist organization. This guy has some serious ties which are not good for America and certainly not good for New York,” said Sekulow. An eager Michael Gross jumped quickly into the debate. “In the United States of America, any church has the right to exist, regardless of its beliefs, so lo ng as they are not preaching a dangerous doctrine. You can’t block a church from being built because the United States Constitution guarantees the freedom of religion!” Gross countered.
