ObamaCare Signup Deadline Extended
In another blow to the president's healthcare plan, the Obama administration announced today it has extended a deadline for health insurance under ObamaCare, giving consumers shopping on HealthCare.gov an extra day, until Dec. 24, to pick plans to kick in for coverage beginning Jan. 1st. “The deadline for signing up for coverage to start January 1 is today,” said Julie Bataille, a spokeswoman for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the agency responsible for the website. “Anticipating high demand and the fact that consumers may be enrolling from multiple time zones, we have taken steps to make sure that those who select a plan through tomorrow will get coverage for January 1,” she said in a statement.
The disastrous roll-out of Obama's Affordable Care Act has undoubtedly left many unsure of their options and consequently reluctant or unable to sign up. The 24-hour extension is intended to give those people an extra day to sort out information and make a decision.
Enrollment has been disappointing, far below government’s initial predictions, hobbled by numerous computer glitches to the Web site created for people to sign up. A measly 365,000 people enrolled in October and November. Last week, President Obama said that 1 million more had enrolled in the first weeks of December, still well short of the 3.5 million enrollees predicted by the government by the end of the year.
Palin Sounds Off On 'Duck Dynasty'
Millions of people tune in each and every week to watch "Duck Dynasty," but fans will soon no longer be able to see the Robertson family patriarch, Phil, on the show because of comments he made about homosexuality last week. A&E networks made a knee-jerk reaction and kicked Phil to the curb and released a statement condemning his comments. Sean was joined by former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, with reaction to the story. "This is all about freedom, free speech. You know, so many American families have spilled blood and treasure to guarantee Phil Robertson and everybody else's right to voice their personal opinions. And once that freedom is lost, Sean, everything is lost in our country. Now, A&E -- they were absolute quacks on this one, the marketing department there. Here they had just recently rolled out their new slogan from their marketing department, and it's "Be original." Well, that translates with A&E's marketing department today into "Be stupid." To get rid of the most popular patriarch on television today -- I tell you, there are other networks that would just nab these guys up in a heartbeat. A&E really screwed up on this one," Palin added.
