ON THE BRINK: North Korea Planning Missile Attack on Guam

posted by Hannity Staff - 8.01.17

North Korea issued a direct threat to the United States on Wednesday, announcing to the world it was actively planning a multi-pronged missile strike against Guam; a US territory in the western Pacific Ocean and home to seven major American military bases.

The communist nation issued the warning through state-run media, saying Kim Jong Un was reviewing his “military options to form attack positions” around Guam in response to punishing new UN sanctions against his regime.

The spokesman specifically mentioned Andersen Air Force Base as a potential target, saying North Korea was prepared to strike with “long-range ballistic missiles.”

Guam’s governor, Eddie Baza Calvo, urged residents to remain calm but vigilant against possible threats.

“I want to reassure the people of Guam that currently there is no threat to our island or the Marianas,” he said. “I also want to remind national media that Guam is American soil and we have 200,000 Americans in Guam and the Marianas. We are not just a military installation.”

“Some people are confident we are safe with the US bases here and others who are not so sure,” said a local journalist.

Guam, often called the “tip of the spear,” is the United States westernmost base and would serve as a key launching point for any armed conflict in the Korean peninsula. The island is home to thousands of American military personnel and their families.
