CYBER WAR: US Officials Say North Korea Hacking US Infrastructure

posted by Hannity Staff - 9.10.17

The Department of Homeland Security warned federal agencies and local government officials on Wednesday that North Korea continues to launch cyber-attacks against “critical” US infrastructure throughout the country.

According to a new report released by the Joint Technical Alert section of the Department of Homeland Security, Kim Jong Un is directing coordinated attacks against the United States using a group of hackers inside North Korea.

Kim’s covert operation is referred to by US officials as HIDDEN COBRA.

The report says the communist nation is using HIDDEN COBRA to “target the media, aerospace, financial, and critical infrastructure sectors in the United States and globally.”

“HIDDEN COBRA actors commonly target systems running older, unsupported versions of Microsoft operating systems. The multiple vulnerabilities in these older systems provide cyber actors many targets for exploitation,” said the warning.

The DHS directive comes as tensions between the United States and North Korea are at an all-time high. The war-of-words between President Trump and Kim Jong Un escalated earlier this week, as the US and regional allies conducted war games on the Korean peninsula.

Despite Kim’s harsh rhetoric, American officials are moving forward with the 10-day long drill, saying it’s essential for regional stability.
