WATCH: Senior Obama Aide Praises Trump's Hurricane Response

posted by Hannity Staff - 11.18.17

A former senior Obama administration official praised President Trump’s handling of both Hurricanes Harvey and Irma on Tuesday, saying the President “understands what people are going through” and has “very good people” surrounding him.

Leon Panetta, who served as both the head of the CIA and Department of Defense under President Obama, applauded Trump’s approach to the natural disasters that leveled parts of the southeastern United States, saying “lessons have been learned” from prior storms.

“How do you think the Trump administration has been responding to these back-to-back natural disasters?” asked a CNN host.

“Lessons have been learned from Katrina, they’ve been learned from Sandy,” said Panetta. “They were able to develop their disaster declarations by the President, they were able to put assets in place and most importantly they did everything necessary to back-up both state and local officials.”

“The President of the United States as the leader of the country really is responsible for how the country responds to these kinds of disasters,” added the senior Obama aide.

“Have you heard that from President Trump yet?” pressed the journalist.

“What I’ve seen from President Trump is an understanding of what people are going through and the fact that the federal government is going to be there. I think he’s got some very good people at FEMA, I think Homeland Security has done a great job, and I think the Department of Defense has done a great job,” said Panetta.
