The President’s comments last week sparked fierce protests in games throughout the league over the weekend, with players locking arms in solidarity, kneeling, or simply remaining in the locker room as the national anthem rang out throughout the stadiums.
President Trump’s Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin commented on the growing controversy on Sunday, telling ABC News that the league should change its policies regarding protests; demanding players stand during the opening ceremony.
“This isn’t about Democrats, it’s not about Republicans, it’s not about race, it’s not about free speech. They can do free speech on their own time,” he added.
