GAME OVER: NFL Commissioner Cops Out, Won't Ask Players to Stand

posted by Hannity Staff - 11.20.17

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell back-tracked on previous comments he made regarding player protests during the national anthem, saying he won’t ask athletes to remain standing during the performance of the ‘Star-Spangled Banner.’

The NFL chief was praised by President Trump last week, after insisting that all players should respect the US flag and national anthem. Goodell sang a different tune on Wednesday, emerging from a meeting with team owners over the ongoing controversy.

“Did you get a commitment from the players that they will stand for the anthem?” asked one journalist.

“We did not ask for that,” said Goodell. “We spent today talking about the issues that our players have been trying to bring attention to.”

“About issues in our communities to make our communities better. I think we all agree there’s nothing more important than trying to give back to our communities and make them better. That was the entire focus today,” he added.
