SEE YA: John Conyers Announces 'Retirement,' NOT Resignation

posted by Hannity Staff - 10.26.17

Embattled Democratic Representative John Conyers announced this week his plans to “retire” and not-seek re-election when his term ends in 2018; saying he will endorse a family member to run for his seat.

According to the New York Times, the 88-year old Congressman -the longest serving member in the House of Representatives- will announce his decision on a local radio talk-show Tuesday morning; publicly endorsing his son to replace him.

“He is not resigning. He is going to retire,” said one family member. “His doctor advised him that the rigor of another campaign would be too much for him just in terms of his health.”

Conyers was recently hospitalized for a “stress-related illness” following multiple allegations of inappropriate sexual abuse spanning his decades long career.

The liberal legislator has s-far refused to resign from office, despite calls from senior Democratic leadership, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“I pray for Congressman Conyers, however, Congressman Conyers should resign,” Pelosi said. “He has served our Congress and shaped consequential legislation—zero tolerance means consequences for everyone—no matter the great legacy.”
