The Democratic Mayor of Atlanta stunned local residents this week when she abruptly signed an executive order proclaiming the city would no longer jail criminals on behalf of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms confirmed the city “will no longer be complicit in a policy that intentionally inflicts misery on a vulnerable population.”

“Atlanta will no longer be complicit in a policy that intentionally inflicts misery on a vulnerable population without giving any thought to the horrific fallout,” Bottoms told reporters Thursday. “As the birthplace of the civil rights movement we are called to be better than this.”
Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp slammed the decision, saying the Mayor’s move would likely increase crime throughout the region.
“The City of Atlanta should focus on cleaning up corruption and stopping crime — not creating more of it,” he said.

CAPITOL CHAOS: Over 500 ICE Protesters Arrested Inside US CAPITOL
Over 500 protesters -including one Democratic lawmaker- were arrested inside the US Capitol this week in protest of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration along the US-Mexico border.
The mass protest took place Thursday in the Hart Senate Office Building; with demonstrators calling for an end to “family separations” and demanding legislators abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
The United States Capitol Police confirmed that 575 people -mostly women- were arrested on the premises, including Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal.
I was just arrested with 500+ women and @WomensMarch to say @RealDonaldTrump’s cruel zero-tolerance policy will not continue. Not in our country. Not in our name.

“People across my state of New York, all across the country are furious with this administration’s policy to separate children from their parents,” Sen. Gillibrand said, adding the protests were an “amazing” act of defiance against the Trump administration.
IT BEGINS: Democrat Calls to ABOLISH ICE Grow Heading into Midterms
More and more Liberal legislators and candidates are calling for the total abolishment of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency; creating a “litmus test” for potential lawmakers heading into the 2018 midterms.
According to Fox News, the Democrats’ renewed calls to limit or eliminate the agency comes as thousands protest the detention of illegal immigrants along the United States’ southern border with Mexico.
“The calls reflect not only the deepening divide between the two partisan poles on immigration — with one side seeking a border wall, and the other looking to dismantle the lead enforcement agency — but the growing influence of the progressive wing,” writes Fox.
“Its extra-judicial nature is baked into the structure of the agency and that is why they are able to get away with black sites at our border, with the separation of children,” said Democrat primary winner Ocasio-Cortez.
