BREAKING NOW: Federal Judge Blocks ‘Citizenship Question’ on 2020 US Census

posted by Hannity Staff - 1.15.19

A federal judge rejected the Trump administration’s decision to include a “citizenship question” on the upcoming 2020 US census Tuesday; claiming the inclusion of citizenship status would likely “hurt immigrants.”

“A federal judge on Tuesday rejected the Trump administration’s plan to add a U.S. citizenship question to the 2020 census, the first ruling in a handful of lawsuits nationwide that claim the question will hurt immigrants,” reports Reuters.

“U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan said U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross concealed his true motives in adding the question last March, ostensibly to help the government enforce the federal Voting Rights Act. Only American citizens can legally vote in federal elections,” adds the article.

The lawsuit -which includes 18 U.S. states and over a dozen independent organizations- argues asking for citizenship status would likely dissuade Latinos and other immigrant communities from taking part in the census.

BLUE STATE BLUES: Liberals REVOLT After Trump Adds ‘Citizenship Status’ to US CENSUS

posted by Hannity Staff - 3.27.18

For the first time in decades the 2020 U.S. Census questionnaire will ask American households whether current residents are American citizens; sparking outrage from liberal lawmakers and the mainstream media over fears it would “intimidate” immigrants from submitting the form.

According to ABC News, multiple state attorneys threatened to sue the federal government over the proposed change; saying it might undermine the integrity of the constitutionally-mandated population count.

The data is used by both the federal government and local officials to distribute money, allocate school funds, and even determine the number of Congressional representatives allotted to each state.

“Secretary Ross determined that obtaining complete and accurate information to meet this legitimate government purpose outweighed the limited potential adverse impacts,” the department said in its announcement.

California’s Attorney General Xavier Becerra slammed the decision, saying “We’re prepared to do what we must to protect California from a deficient Census.”

“The Constitution requires us to count every person living in the United States, not every citizen,” added Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin.

BLUE STATE BLUES: New York Leads LAWSUIT Against 'Unconstitutional' 2020 Census

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.03.18

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is leading the charge of a “multi-state coalition” filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration this week; bizarrely claiming the inclusion of a “citizenship” question on the 2020 census somehow violates the US constitution.

“This is a blatant effort to undermine the census and to prevent the census bureau from carrying out its clear constitutional mandate,” Schneiderman said at a press conference, unveiling the lawsuit that was co-signed by nearly 20 other attorney generals and the US Conference of Mayors.

The issue was thrust into the national spotlight last week when the Commerce Department announced its decision to include the “citizenship” question on the upcoming census; prompting liberal lawmakers to question the Trump administration’s motives behind the move.

“It is not just undocumented people who would be afraid in this situation, anyone with a mixed status family or anyone who is concerned about the anti-immigrant animus, and courts repeatedly have found in cases that I have brought that this administration has an anti-immigrant animus, will be scared,” Schneiderman said.

“The Census is a fundamental part of our democracy, and we must encourage every person living in our country to participate, not put up barriers that prevent people from being counted,” said the Illinois Attorney General. “I am filing this lawsuit to ensure that immigrants in Illinois are represented fairly and accurately.”
