DEVELOPING: ICE to Release More Migrants to Comply with Legal ‘Timeframe’ for Detainees

posted by Hannity Staff - 12.27.18

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency released a statement this week after releasing hundreds of Central American migrants on the streets of Texas and New Mexico; saying they are complying with a federally mandated “timeframe” for detained families

“To mitigate the risk of holding family units past the timeframe allotted to the government, ICE has curtailed reviews of post-release plans from families apprehended along the southwest border,” the statement read. “ICE continues to work with local and state officials and NGO partners in the area so they are prepared to provide assistance with transportation or other services.”

The announcement comes after the agency released over 1,000 immigrants during the Christmas holiday; sparking criticism from local officials and charities coping with the influx of the Central American asylum seekers.

“They’re coming from immigration cells so they’re coming hungry, they’re coming thirsty, most haven’t bathed in a long time. The situation is really difficult for them,” said the leader of a local charity.

ICE officials released a statement this week claiming the release was intended to comply with federal guidelines that prevent them from detaining families longer than legally permitted.

REPORT: US Authorities Release More than 1,000 Migrants on Streets of Texas, New Mexico

posted by Hannity Staff - 12.27.18

Federal authorities have released more than 1,000 members of the Central American ‘migrant caravan’ on the streets of Texas and New Mexico this week; complying with outdated immigration laws that prohibit the amount of time families can be detained by US officials.

“Ruben Garcia from Annunciation House in El Paso told CBS News that 522 migrants were released Wednesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at sites in El Paso and Las Cruces, New Mexico. That raises the total number of people released this week to more than 1,000, after 186 people were released on Christmas Day and 400 were released in the two days before Christmas,” writes CBS News.

Another 500 migrants are likely to be released in the region Thursday.

“It should be organized and orderly as it was today,” Garcia added.
