Senator Lindsey Graham was officially elected as the newest chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee this week; taking control from Sen. Chuck Grassley who announced last year he would be stepping down in January.
“I’m honored to be selected as chairman of the Judiciary Committee,” Graham said in a separate news release. “I will do my best to continue down the path charted by Senator Grassley of having a fair and vibrant committee process.”
“The confirmation of conservative judges will be one of my top priorities as chairman,” he added.
Graham confirmed Wednesday that he plans to launch investigations into allegations the FBI and other agencies illegally surveilled the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein will remain as the ranking Democrat on the committee.

GRAHAM ON BOARD: Sen. Graham Backs Trump, Will Introduce Bill to Curb ‘Birthright’ Citizenship
Sen. Lindsey Graham threw his full support behind President Trump’s new plan to curb “birthright citizenship” to non-residents throughout the United States Tuesday, saying he will introduce similar legislation in the coming days.
Graham posted his endorsement on social media just hours after the Commander-in-Chief confirmed he was preparing an executive order to limit the “ridiculous” practice of handing out US citizenship to anyone born in the country.
“Finally, a president willing to take on this absurd policy of birthright citizenship,” tweeted Graham. “In addition, I plan to introduce legislation along the same lines as the proposed executive order from President @realDonaldTrump.”

The President confirmed the potential policy in a recent interview with Axios, saying officials are reviewing the long-recognized understanding of the 14th Amendment; which states “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

Senator Lindsey Graham praised President Trump’s fiery exchange with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer this week; saying the Commander-in-Chief was “sticking to his guns” on border security.
The outspoken legislator vowed to fight “liberal arrogance” surrounding immigration Tuesday afternoon; urging fellow lawmakers to “take it on, stare it down” and “see what happens.”
Complaining Pelosi will not accept a DACA deal for wall money, Graham said: “This is liberal arrogance and I have had enough of it. Take it on, stare it down. See what happens.”

Graham urged Republicans to “dig in” following the President’s press conference with Democratic leadership, saying “Put DACA on the table and make them say NO to the Wall and DACA.”
