Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley didn’t mince words while commenting on the numerous scandals surrounding Robert Mueller’s Russia-Trump investigation, saying FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe “out to be replaced.”
Grassley was speaking with Bloomberg News when he made the surprise demand, blasting McCabe and other FBI officials over recent reports of widespread anti-Trump bias throughout the agency.
“Trump ought to stay out of it,” Grassley said. “I think it’s a Christopher Wray job.”
“[McCabe] oughta be replaced. And I’ve said that before and I’ve said it to people who can do it,” he added.
McCabe will appear before the House Intelligence Committee this week, answering questions over his handling of special counsel Robert Mueller’s months-long investigation into the 2016 election.
The FBI and DOJ were thrust into the national spotlight earlier this month, after a bombshell report showed senior FBI agents exchanging blatantly anti-Trump text messages.
GRASSLEY UNCHAINED: Chuck Grassley FIRES OFF FURIOUS Letter to Rod Rosenstein
Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley released a fiery letter aimed at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Wednesday, demanding answers over allegations of widespread abuse and anti-Trump bias throughout the Department of Justice.
Grassley’s letter cited numerous examples of recent scandals surrounding Robert Mueller’s botched probe into allegations of Russian-Trump collusion throughout the 2016 campaign; slamming reports that senior FBI agents exchanged Trump-bashing text messages during the investigation.
“Some of these texts appear to go beyond merely expressing a private political opinion, and appear to cross the line into taking some official action to create an ‘insurance policy’ against a Trump presidency,” he writes.
“Any improper political influence or motives in the course of any FBI investigation must be brought to light and fully addressed,” he adds. “What steps have you taken to determine whether Mr. Strzok, Mr. Page, and Mr. McCabe should face disciplinary action for their conduct?”
The chorus of GOP legislators calling for Robert Mueller’s removal grew this week, after bombshell reports revealed rampant anti-Trump behavior throughout the special counsel’s office.
