Kim Jong Un made good on a personal promise to President Trump Friday, returning the remains of at least 55 US soldiers killed in the Korean War and further signaling his willingness to cooperate with the White House.

The heroes’ homecoming was praised by President Trump on social media within hours of their arrival in South Korea as they headed towards the United States, saying “The Remains of American Servicemen will soon be leaving North Korea and heading to the United States! After so many years, this will be a great moment for so many families. Thank you to Kim Jong Un.”

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis also praised the Hermit Kingdom’s decision to return the remains, saying it’s possible for an American military delegation to visit North Korea in the coming months to help locate more deceased service members.

President Trump confirmed Wednesday that the North Korean government has already returned the remains of 200 American soldiers killed in the Korean War; telling a crowd of supporters the recovered bodies were being “sent back today.”

“We got back our great fallen heroes, the remains sent back today, already 200 got sent back,” Trump told a rally in Minnesota this week.

The confirmation comes after months of back-and-forth negotiations between US and North Korean authorities ahead of June’s historic Singapore Summit.

According to the Pentagon, more than 36,500 US soldiers died in the Korean War between 1950 and 1953.

Approximately 7,700 remain unaccounted for.

HEROES HOMECOMING: North Korea Set to Return REMAINS OF US SOLDIERS this Week

Kim Jong Un is poised to return the remains of dozens of US soldiers this week; complying with previous agreements that called on his regime to handover the missing heroes by a July 27th deadline.

According to the New York Post, the Hermit Kingdom recently dispatched “two truckloads of wooden boxes” that are to be used for the transportation of those American soldiers killed in the Korean War.

“North Korea recently took two truckloads of wooden boxes to be used for the remains repatriation. It’s expected to hand over the remains on July 27 as agreed upon,” writes the Post.

Despite an eventual cease fire in 1953, North Korea, South Korea, and the United States are technically still at a state of war.

The initial agreement between Kim and the Trump administration calls for the remains to be airlifted to a forensic base in Hawaii, where they will hopefully be identified.
