posted by Hannity Staff - 1.17.19

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refused to back-down from her initial claim that the Secret Service would be unable to adequately provide security for the State of the Union this week; claiming a “furloughed DHS employee” expressed “serious concerns” over safety.

“Pelosi spox: The Office of the Spkr has been contacted by a furloughed DHS employee who expressed serious concerns that the dept has insufficient staffing levels to sufficiently manage the security needs for the upcoming State of the Union..due to furloughs of critical staff,” posted a reporter for Fox News on social media.

The Department of Homeland Security flat-out denied Pelosi’s claims Thursday; saying they were “fully prepared” to ensure the safety of the President’s State of the Union address.

The Department of Homeland Security slammed Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “security concerns” argument surrounding the President’s State of the Union address this week; confirming the Secret Service is “fully prepared” to protect the annual event.

“The Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union. We thank the Service for their mission focus and dedication and for all they do each day to secure our homeland,” posted DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on social media.

Sen. Rand Paul urged President Trump to hold the address in the US Senate Thursday; saying his chamber should host the event should Pelosi refuse to invite the Commander-in-Chief to the House of Representatives.

NICE TRY NANCY: Secret Service REJECTS Pelosi’s Claims About 'State of the Union' Safety

The Secret Service corrected Speaker Pelosi’s recent claims that the President should delay his State of the Union address over safety concerns Wednesday; saying the agency is willing and capable to ensure politicians’ safety during the event.

“Secret Service is fully ready to offer full protection during the #SOTU, a sr. law enforcement official tells @petewilliamsnbc. ‘It’s a no-fail mission,’ the official says. Though USSS personnel are not being paid, the intelligence & protection functions are fully staffed. (1/2),” posted a reporter for NBC News on social media.

“We’ve been planning for this for months, as we always do. It didn’t start up 29 days ago,” the official said. (2/2),” he added.

The rebuke comes hours after Pelosi urged President Trump to delay the address until after the federal government officially reopens.
