“I am announcing today that I’m supporting legislation that will make sure we never have another shutdown again. And if the President and Congress can’t reach an agreement, federal workers are still paid at the levels they have always been paid,” said Schumer.
“We can pass that legislation, it will mean above all that federal workers will not be hurt again and will also eliminate the incentive for anyone to use the shutdown as a tool to get what they want,” he added.

“I’ve been here all weekend. A lot of the Democrats were in Puerto Rico celebrating something. I don’t know, maybe they’re celebrating the shutdown. We have a very big crisis on the border. Everybody knows it, they know it,” said the president.
“The Republicans are rock solid, we’ve got to take care of our border. Many of the people that aren’t being paid right now are in total agreement with us,” he added.

CRITICAL SITUATION: Trump Summons Leaders to Situation Room for Budget Showdown
President Trump summoned congressional leaders to the White House’s Situation Room Wednesday; demanding Democrats and Republicans fully fund his border security initiatives and re-open the federal government.
“President Trump plans to hold a highly anticipated border security meeting with congressional leaders in the Situation Room on Wednesday afternoon, Fox News has learned — choosing a setting meant to underscore the urgency of the border problem,” writes Fox.
The federal government effectively shutdown December 22nd after congressional Democrats called the president’s border wall funding a “non-starter” in budget negotiations.
The high-stakes meeting comes just hours before Democrats retake control of the House of Representatives, when House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is widely expected to become the next Speaker of the House.
