POLITICAL PRICE: 2018 Midterm Election Cycle Expected to TOP $5 BILLION in Spending

posted by Hannity Staff - 11.05.18

The 2018 midterm election cycle is expected to make history once the dust settles late Tuesday evening, with economists and experts predicting the political contests will cost over $5 billion in campaign cash.

If the predictions are correct, the 2018 midterms will be the most expensive in American history.

“We expected to see the numbers climb, as they typically do, but the astonishing spike in campaign donations is a solid indicator of the intensity driving this year’s campaigns,” said one insider.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Democrats raised over $1.3 billion from individual donors while Republicans took in approximately $1 billion.

The Texas Senate race between Sen. Ted Cruz and Democrat Beto O’Rourke is expected to have cost over $110 million alone.

Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke raised a staggering $70 million in his efforts to oust Sen. Ted Cruz in Texas this election cycle; smashing records and outpacing the GOP legislator by a two-to-one margin.

“The cost of a U.S. Senate seat from Texas has never been higher, and Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s insurgent bid to topple Sen. Ted Cruz has now attracted $70 million as the El Paso Democrat keeps setting new national records,” writes the Dallas News.

“The Democrat’s latest campaign report, filed early Friday with the Federal Election Commission, showed he brought in nearly $8.5 million from Oct. 1 to 17, padding a tally that was already the most of for any Senate candidate anywhere, ever,” adds the author.

In contrast, Cruz has raised approximately $30 million since early 2017 according to FEC filings.

Despite O’Rourke’s deep pockets, Sen. Cruz maintains a slight lead in the Texas race; holding a five to seven point advantage in recent polls.

A new poll released Thursday shows GOP Senator Ted Cruz maintaining a slight 3 point advantage over liberal challenger Beto O’Rourke; placing the high-stakes Texas contest well within the statistical margin of error.

The survey published by Emerson College has Cruz at 50% and O’Rourke at 47% with two percent of those asked still undecided.

“The poll shows a somewhat tightened race compared to a previous Emerson College poll released in early October, which found Cruz with a 5-point lead over O’Rourke, 47 percent to 42 percent among likely voters poled,” writes the Hill.

President Trump visited the Lone Star State just days ago, downplaying their GOP primary rivalry and saying no politician has helped him advance his political agenda more than Senator Ted Cruz.
