posted by Hannity Staff - 1.31.19

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stopped by ‘Hannity’ Wednesday night to weigh-in on the “man-made catastrophe” taking place in Venezuela; saying the US is prepared to help the Venezuelan people “achieve freedom and democracy.”

“What’s the situation and what’s the President’s position?” asked Hannity.

“The quest for freedom is on. The Venezuelan people have made it very clear that their constitution demands that Maduro not be the president. The United States is prepared to support the Venezuelan people to achieve freedom and democracy,” said Pompeo.

“This is a man-made catastrophe by the Maduro regime and we’re intent on helping the Venezuelan people correct it,” he added.

ANOTHER TERM: Venezuela’s Socialist President Sworn-in for SECOND SIX-Year Term

posted by Hannity Staff - 1.10.19

Venezuela’s socialist President Nicolas Maduro was sworn-in for his second six-year term Thursday; sparking outrage from world leaders and local activists demanding the brutal leader resign from office.

“Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was being sworn in to a second term Thursday amid international calls for him to step down and a devastating economic crisis, but with some long-time friends in attendance both from abroad and at home,” writes the Associated Press.

“A dozen Latin American governments and Canada in a coalition have rejected the legitimacy of Maduro’s next term, and Washington has sanctioned top officials in his government,” adds the article.

Venezuela’s crumbling economy has forced millions to flee the socialist country, where recent polling shows upwards of 80% of the population struggle to find food on a daily basis.

President Donald Trump officially recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim President of Venezuela Wednesday; raising the stakes in the United States fierce opposition to socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

“In its role as the only legitimate branch of government duly elected by the Venezuelan people, the National Assembly invoked the country’s constitution to declare Nicolas Maduro illegitimate, and the office of the presidency therefore vacant,” Trump said in a statement. “The people of Venezuela have courageously spoken out against Maduro and his regime and demanded freedom and the rule of law.”

“Shortly before Trump’s statement, Guaido said in a webcast from a protest in Caracas that he would assume the powers of the Venezuela presidency. He invoked a constitutional amendment that allows for the head of the legislature to lead a caretaker government until new elections can be held,” writes Bloomberg
