A group of centrist Democrats are “floating” the idea of a potential primary challenge to recently sworn-in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; saying the Democratic-Socialist could be beaten by more moderate candidates in New York City.
“Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has infuriated colleagues by aligning with a progressive outside group that’s threatening to primary entrenched Democrats. Now some of those lawmakers are turning the tables on her and are discussing recruiting a primary challenger to run against the social media sensation,” writes the Hill.
“What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson,” said one Democratic insider.
Ocasio-Cortez stunned Democrats across the country during last year’s bitter primary battle; defeating a longtime incumbent Congressman heading into the 2018 midterm election.

CONFUSION: Cortez Complains There Are No ‘Frontline Community Leaders’ at Congressional Meeting
Incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed her Congressional orientation meeting this week; blasting the briefing for having no “labor leaders,” activists, and “frontline community leaders.”
Cortez critiqued her initial meetings on social media Thursday, writing “Right now Freshman members of Congress are at a ‘Bipartisan’ orientation w/ briefings on issues. Invited panelists offer insights to inform new Congressmembers’ views as they prepare to legislate.”
“Lobbyists are here. Goldman Sachs is here. Where‘s labor? Activists? Frontline community leaders?” she asked.
Our “bipartisan” Congressional orientation is cohosted by a corporate lobbyist group. Other members have quietly expressed to me their concern that this wasn’t told to us in advance.

The future Congresswoman raised eyebrows throughout Washington this week during a climate change panel with Sen. Bernie Sanders; bizarrely suggesting “renewable energy” will lead to “economic and racial justice” across the United States.
‘A FEW DAYS' OFF: Ocasio-Cortez Says She’s Taking a ‘Self-Care’ Break Before Her Term Begins
Incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced this week she plans on taking a “self-care” break before starting her term in early January; saying she’s “taking a few days to take care of myself.”
“I’m taking a few days to take care of myself before what is sure to be an eventful term. For working people, immigrants, & the poor, self-care is political – not because we want it to be, but bc of the inevitable shaming of someone doing a face mask while financially stressed,” she posted on social media.

“Before the campaign, I used to practice yoga 3-4x/week, eat nutritiously, read and write for leisure,” Ocasio-Cortez added on Instagram. “As soon as everything kicked up, that all went out the window. I went from doing yoga and making wild rice and salmon dinners to eating fast food for dinner and falling asleep in my jeans and makeup.”
