SANCTUARY STANDS: Another Judge Blocks Trump's Fight Against Sanctuary Cities

posted by Hannity Staff - 11.30.18

A federal judge in Manhattan further undermined the Trump administration’s fierce crackdown on sanctuary cities Friday; calling the White House’s move to limit federal funds to cities that defy immigration law “arbitrary and capricious.”

“A federal judge in Manhattan landed another blow to the Trump administration’s immigration policies Friday, blocking efforts to punish cities for protecting immigrants from the feds by blocking grants to local law enforcement,” writes the New York Post.

“As we argued, local law enforcement has the right to decide how to meet their local public safety needs — and the Trump administration simply does not have the right to require state and local police to act as federal immigration agents,” New York state Attorney General Barbara Underwood said in a statement. “The Trump administration’s attempt to withhold these vital funds was nothing more than a political attack at the expense of our public safety.”

A similar court ruling in San Francisco also blocked the President’s “efforts” in attempting to deny asylum seekers traveling with the ‘migrant caravan.’

BREAKING: Federal Court Says Trump’s Fight Against ‘Sanctuary Cities’ is UNCONSTITUTIONAL

posted by Hannity Staff - 8.01.18

A United States Appeals Court ruled Wednesday that the Trump administration’s efforts to cut-off federal funding from ‘Sanctuary Cities’ was unconstitutional; saying the executive branch can’t withhold money from towns that refuse to follow immigration guidelines.

According to Fox News, the court’s 2-1 decision claimed the President could only cease federal funds through “congressional authorization.”

“Absent congressional authorization, the administration may not redistribute or withhold properly appropriated funds in order to effectuate its own policy goals,” Chief Judge Sidney Thomas wrote for the majority.

The President’s fight against the Sanctuary Cities was held-up in court last November when a District Judge permanently blocked the proposal; claiming Trump “didn’t have the authority” to punish municipalities that bucked his immigration guidelines.

“A federal judge also ruled last Friday that the U.S. Justice Department cannot withhold grants from Chicago because it was providing sanctuary to immigrants,” writes Fox.

CALIFORNIA CHAOS: Federal Judge BLOCKS Trump’s Fight to End ‘Sanctuary Cities’

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.05.18

A federal judge officially blocked the Trump administration’s quest to crackdown on California’s ‘Sanctuary City’ policies Thursday; rebuking the White House’s efforts to stop local municipalities from shielding illegal immigrants from federal agents.

According to Politico, U.S. District Court Judge John Mendez of Sacramento rebuked the President’s attempts to fight the state’s ‘Sanctuary’ policies, stopping the Dept. of Justice’s efforts to retrieve detailed information from California officials regarding undocumented workers.

“While the ruling is a setback for the Trump administration’s attempt to enforce immigration laws in states where leaders favor more liberal policies, Mendez did block parts of one of the disputed California laws, including provisions that banned private employers from voluntarily cooperating with immigration officials and from re-verifying the legal work status of employees,” writes Politico.

“Refusing to help is not the same as impeding,” wrote the judge’s decision. “Federal objectives will always be furthered if states offer to assist federal efforts. A state’s decision not to assist in those activities will always make the federal object more difficult to attain than it would be otherwise. Standing aside does not equate to standing in the way.”
