THE BIG ONE? California on Edge After 69 Quakes Rock ‘Ring of Fire’

posted by Hannity Staff - 8.22.18

California residents and government officials are preparing for a potentially major geological event after roughly 70 earthquakes struck the Pacific’s “ring of fire” in just 48 hours.

According to Fox News, dozens of quakes occurred in the region over the last two-days; a normal indicator that a large-scale event may be brewing underneath Californians’ feet.

“A large swath of earthquakes hit the Pacific’s so-called Ring of Fire earlier this week, prompting some to wonder if it is a precursor to the oft-discussed massive earthquake, colloquially known as ‘the Big One,’” writes Fox.

“Several of the quakes registered significant impacts, including one that hit 5.0 and shook the area on Tuesday morning. Fiji appeared to be the most impacted, as five tremors above a 4.5 magnitude hit the small island,” adds the article.

The last “big one” to occur in California was the Great Earthquake of 1906 that struck San Francisco; destroying nearly 80% of the city and killing 3,000 people.

NIGHTMARE: Venezuela Struck with 7.3 MEGA EARTHQUAKE as Economy Crumbles

posted by Hannity Staff - 8.22.18

A massive 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the northern coast of Venezuela Tuesday night; sending shockwaves through a region struggling with a crumbling economy and a collapsing socialist government.

The United States Geological Survey confirmed the mega quake occurred at 5:31pm local time near the city if Carupano.

“The earthquake was felt more than 600km further east in Caracas, where the crisis-stricken nation’s political leaders were celebrating a ‘revolutionary’ new economic plan they claim will rescue Venezuela’s crumbling economy but economists fear will make it worse,” writes the Guardian.

PARADISE LOST: Hawaiians Return to Destroyed Homes, Toxic Gas

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.08.18

Most of the 2,000 residents ordered to evacuate from Hawaii are now allowed to return to their homes following this weekend’s devastating volcanic eruption, with state officials warning they may be forced to flee at a “moment’s notice.”

According to Reuters, residents of the ‘Big Island’ are now permitted to return to the Leilani Estates neighborhood, where dozens of homes were destroyed by molten lava and debilitating ash storms.

The neighborhood sits just 12 miles from the volcano and was forcibly evacuated after officials detected lethal levels of sulfur dioxide gas.

“Please, the residents of Leilani need our help. This is not the time for sightseeing. You can help tremendously by staying out of the area,” said the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.

“It’s been a bit of a chaotic week, a very stressful situation. It’s one of those hopeless, helpless outlooks. It’s hard to explain but the lava is right behind my house and it’s pretty surreal,” one resident told Reuters.

No major injuries have been reported in the immediate fallout of the volcanic eruption and subsequent earthquakes, the worst eruption to strike Hawaii since 1975.
