BEIJING BLINKS: China Says it 'WILL NOT FIGHT' Trade War with Trump

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.21.18

Chinese officials confirmed over the weekend that Beijing has no interest in fighting a “trade war” with the United States; saying both nations have reached a “consensus” after President Trump announced stiff economic sanctions earlier this year.

According to Yahoo News, Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, the leading negotiator in trade talks between Beijing and Washington, told reporters Sunday that his nation “will not fight a trade war” against the United States.

“The two sides reached a consensus, will not fight a trade war, and will stop increasing tariffs on each other,” said He.

“At the same time it must be realized that unfreezing the ice cannot be done in a day, solving the structural problems of the economic and trade relations between the two countries will take time,” he added.

President Trump stunned Chinese officials earlier this year when he announced over $50 billion of tariffs on Chinese-produced goods; sparking speculation Beijing would retaliate by imposing  harsh taxes on American products.

BRING IT ON: President Trump Says US Would ‘EASILY WIN’ Any Trade War

President Trump reassured the American public Friday that the United States would “easily win” a trade war with China or any other nation; easing concerns after he announced dramatic new tariffs on foreign-produced steel and aluminum.

The President slammed his predecessors’ decisions on trade and manufacturing on social media, saying a vibrant steel industry was vital to the national security of any nation.

“When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win. Example, when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don’t trade anymore-we win big. It’s easy!” Trump tweeted.

“When a country Taxes our products coming in at, say, 50%, and we Tax the same product coming into our country at ZERO, not fair or smart. We will soon be starting RECIPROCAL TAXES so that we will charge the same thing as they charge us. $800 Billion Trade Deficit-have no choice!” he added.

The President’s comments come hours after he suddenly announced the new tariffs during a meeting with industry leaders, telling the executives “You have protection for the first time in a long while and you are going to regrow your industries.”

President Trump thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping Tuesday; praising the leader after he pledged to reduce international tariffs and reform his country’s approach to intellectual property rights.

The President extended the olive branch on social media within hours of Xi’s statement regarding trade with the United States, saying, “Very thankful for President Xi of China’s kind words on tariffs and automobile barriers.”

“Very thankful for President Xi of China’s kind words on tarrifs and automobile barriers…also, his enlightenment on intellectual property and technology transfers. We will make great progress together!” tweeted the President.

Trump’s comments come hours after the Chinese President addressed an international business conference, easing fears of an international trade war and saying “China’s door of opening up will not be closed and will only open wider.”
