UP IN SMOKE: Schumer Moves to LEGALIZE Marijuana Nationwide

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.20.18

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Friday his plan to introduce legislation that would de-criminalize marijuana across the United States; saying the decision to legalize the drug should be left to the states.

Schumer unveiled his decision on social media, writing “It’s official. Today, I am formally announcing my plan to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level. It’s time we allow states, once and for all, to have the power to decide what works best for them.”

“I have long believed that states should function as their own laboratories of democracy. My bill is a step in the right direction aimed at removing the barriers to state legalization efforts,” he added.

Schumer’s legislation would officially remove marijuana from the list of federally scheduled substances; effectively allowing states to legalize the drug for both medicinal and recreational purposes.

SMOKE OUT: Sessions RESCINDS OBAMA Decision on Legal Marijuana

posted by Hannity Staff - 1.04.18

Attorney General Jeff Sessions threw cold water on the legal marijuana industry on Thursday, announcing his decision to roll back former President Barack Obama’s drug-friendly policies that permitted the cannabis industry to thrive in certain states.

The new guidelines allow federal prosecutors, including the FBI, to pursue cases and bring charges against growers and users of the drug

The new guidelines allow federal prosecutors, including the FBI, to pursue cases and bring charges against growers and users of the drug; even in states where the use of recreational or medicinal marijuana is permitted.

“U.S. attorneys need to make decisions in these cases as they do in other drugs cases,” one Department of Justice official told Fox News.

Obama’s initial ruling dates back to 2013, releasing a memo that instructed federal agents to not intervene in states that legalized or semi-legalized the use and possession of cannabis-related products.

“Give the Department’s well-established general principles, previous nationwide guidance specific to marijuana enforcement is unnecessary and is rescinded, effective immediately,” Sessions said in a statement this week.

The issue of recreational marijuana was brought back into the spotlight on New Year’s Day, when California became the nation’s latest state to permit the legal sale and consumption of the drug.

The drug is now available to sell to any adult over the age of 21, and residents are permitted to grow up to six plants on their private property.

BLUE STATE BLUES: New Jersey Governor to RAISE TAXES on ‘EVERYTHING’

The Democratic Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy unveiled his vision for the state’s proposed budget Wednesday; raising taxes on “everything” in a bid to save the Garden State from ballooning debt and massive budget deficits.

Murphy -the liberal politician who replaced outgoing governor and presidential nominee Chris Christie- plans to fund the state’s record-setting $37.4 billion budget by increasing taxes on nearly everything, including: gambling, ride-sharing services, marijuana, tobacco, online sales, retail sales, and more.

The budget also increases spending for education, transportation services, and state-wide pension funds.

“If we enact another budget like the one our administration inherited, our middle class will continue to be the ones shouldering the burden, while seeing little in return,” Murphy said Tuesday. “A millionaire’s tax is the right thing to do… and now is the time to do it.”

“The proposal, 4.2 percent higher than the current fiscal year’s, relies on a tax for the wealthiest that has yet to be approved and lacks support from key Democrats in the legislature,” writes Bloomberg. “It also reverses pledges from Murphy’s predecessor, Republican Chris Christie, to lower taxes in a state where living costs are among the nation’s highest.”
