BREAKING: Mueller Opens Grand Jury in Russia-Trump Investigation

posted by Hannity Staff - 11.20.17

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington, DC to investigate the Russian government’s interference in the 2016 general election; a clear sign the probe is gaining steam and moving ahead, reports Fox News.

The grand jury has been quietly working for at least several weeks, according to the Wall Street Journal, and will likely “continue for months” as more and more information comes to light.

The special counsel to President Trump, Ty Cobb, said he was unaware that Robert Mueller had convened a grand jury as part of his ongoing investigation.

“Grand jury matters are typically secret,” said Cobb. “The White House favors anything that accelerates the conclusion of his work fairly.…The White House is committed to fully cooperating with Mr. Mueller.”

The grand jury process is a valuable tool for prosecutors, allowing them to issue subpoenas, speak with witnesses, review evidence of a crime, and expands access to other resources.

“This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel,” a law professor told the Wall Street Journal. “If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so.”
