Memorial Ruck in Cameron City, TX to Honor Fallen Heroes

A memorial ruck is taking place on August 19 in Cameron City, Texas to honor heroes, 2 Lt. Darryn Andrews and Master Sgt. Charles Price III.

You may recall the story of Lt. Andrews. He died in Afghanistan on September 4, 2009 while searching for, Bowe Bergdahl. Andrews’ platoon came under enemy fire and in a heroic and selfless act, he pushed his fellow soldiers out of the way and took the direct hit of an RPG for himself. Andrews was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Medal. Darryn received 3 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Texas Legislative Medal of Honor

MSG Price sacrificed his life on August 12, 2011 when an IED exploded near his patrol unit in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. He was on his sixth deployment since entering the Army in 1989. His decorations included the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Commendation Medals and nine Army Achievement Medals.

Ruck Details:

The 8 mile ruck will begin at 8 a.m. in Cameron City Park, Cameron, TX. The ruck will follow Fannin St. out to HWY 77 N, turning around at Denio’s Furniture Store and will head back to City Park.

At 1:00 pm a memorial service in the park will be held to honor the fallen and their families. The guest speaker will be Army veteran and amputee, Earl Granville.
