Protester Arrested And Charged For Pulling Down Durham Confederate Memorial

posted by Hannity Staff - 8.20.17

Durham County sheriff’s deputies have announced that an arrest has been made after protesters pulled down a monument to Confederate dead in Durham, North Carolina on Monday.

North Carolina’s WRAL reports:

Takiyah Fatima Thompson, 22, was charged with participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 and inciting others to riot where property damage exceeds $1,500, both felonies, as well as damage to real property and disorderly conduct by injury to a statue, both misdemeanors.

Thompson used a ladder to scale the podium on which the Confederate Soldiers Monument had stood since 1924, then climbed the statue and wrapped a strap around it so other protesters could pull it down.

On Monday, left-wing demonstrators in downtown Durham, North Carolina tore down a confederate soldier memorial and kicking the nearly 100-year old statue as it lay on the ground.

While Chanting “No Cops, No KKK, no fascist U.S.A.,” the protesters tied a tow-strap around the neck of the statue; ultimately toppling the unnamed confederate soldier depicted in the memorial. The statue tumbled to the ground as demonstrators kicked and spit at the figure.
