One of the co-founders of Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the shady ‘Trump Dossier,’ is set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday; facing harsh questions over his firm’s role in creating the debunked dossier and how the project was funded.
Glenn Simpson will spar with Sen. Grassley and other politicians eager to get to the bottom of the 35-page document, much of which formed the basis for the initial allegations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials ahead of the 2016 presidential race.
While Simpson founded Fusion GPS, most of the dossier was compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, who is also expected to testify under oath should officials in the United Kingdom agree.
Most of the allegations contained in the documents have been debunked and are largely considered fictitious.
Congressional leaders are determined to launch a thorough investigation over the dossier and Fusion GPS’s role in creating the material; including who was involved, who financed the project, and whether outside organizations worked on the dossier –including Russian officials and the Democratic Party.
It is unclear if Simpson will meet with special counsel Robert Mueller regarding his ongoing investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race.
