President Trump slammed the mainstream media during his rally in Phoenix on Tuesday night, but it was the crowd that took the biggest swing at “fake news,” starting an impromptu chant of “CNN Sucks” in the middle of the President’s speech.
The President was defending his response to the chaos that rocked Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend, taking on news outlets that unfairly covered his comments regarding the demonstrations.
“If you’re reading a story about somebody, you don’t know, you assume it’s honest because it’s like the failing New York Times, which is so bad. Or the Washington Post which I call a lobbying tool for Amazon,” said the President.
“Or CNN, which is so bad and so pathetic and their ratings are going down,” he added.
The audience agreed, launching into a full-throated chant of “CNN Sucks” in the middle of the President’s remarks.
President Trump spent much of his address blasting the mainstream media and establishment press, saying the news outlets were filled with “sick” people who “don’t like our country.”
“I really think they don’t like our country. I really believe that,” he said. “If you want to discover the source of the division and our country, look no further than the fake news and the crooked media — which would rather get ratings and clicks than tell the truth.”
