Senator Arpaio? 'America's Sheriff' Considering Run for US Congress

posted by Hannity Staff - 11.24.17

Fresh off his Presidential pardon, ‘America’s Toughest Sheriff’ Joe Arpaio hinted at a possible congressional run against Republican Senator Jeff Flake, saying the “door is open” and slamming GOP lawmakers were not supporting President Trump.

Joe Arpaio was speaking with the Washington Examiner when he made the surprising announcement.

“I could run for mayor, I could run for legislator, I could run for Senate,” said the former Sheriff. He added that he was “getting a lot of people around the state asking” if he planned to take on Sen. Flake.

“All I’m saying is the door is open and we’ll see what happens. I’ve got support. I know what support I have,” he added.

When asked if he had changed his mind from his earlier comments that he had no interest in running for office, Arpaio fired back, saying “with what I’ve seen happening in recent months, especially what’s happening with our president, I said, ‘Hey, why not?'”

Sen. Flake is currently locked in heated battle against former state Sen. Kelli Ward, who was openly endorsed by President Trump earlier this year.

The 85-year old lawman was thrust into national headlines late last week after receiving a Presidential pardon over a contempt conviction earlier this month; he faced a maximum sentence of six-months imprisonment.
