Former President Barack Obama ripped President Trump on Tuesday, blasting his “cruel” decision to phase-out the DACA program over a period of six months; conveniently forgetting Obama himself initially described the immigration policy as a “temporary measure” back in 2012.
Obama was outlining the new procedures in a televised address from the White House when he made the stunning admission.
“In the next few months, eligible individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request temporary relief from deportation proceedings and apply for work authorization,” Obama said. “Let’s be clear: this is not amnesty, this is not immunity, this is not a path to citizenship, this is not a permanent fix.”
“This is a temporary stop-gap measure that helps us focus our resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, and patriotic young people,” he added. “It is the right thing to do.”
Obama’s comments in 2012 are in stark contrast to remarks the former President made earlier this week, blasting President Trump for his “cruel” decision that would “hurt” hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.
