FLORIDA GOVERNOR: Use These Tech Apps to Cope with Hurricane Irma

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.18.17

Florida Governor Rick Scott addressed residents of his state on Friday just hours before Hurricane Irma makes landfall near Miami, urging all Floridians to use online resources and other tech apps to help them cope with the impact of the devastating storm.

The Governor called on residents and tourists in the Category 4 hurricane’s path to use apps to help individuals find fuel, avoid traffic congestion, and “navigate safely” around the state during the storm and in the immediate aftermath.

Scott specifically mentioned Gas Buddy, Google Maps, Expedia, and Comcast’s Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspot finder.

“The Gas Buddy app is a great resource to find stations with fuel,” said the Governor.

For those looking to evacuate, Scott urged residents to utilize Google Maps, saying the tech giant would be keeping the map up to date with the “most current information” over road closures, traffic, and flooding.

“Real time traffic information and evacuation routes is available at FL511.com,” said the Governor. “We have traffic cameras on every major roadway in the state and are clearing traffic issues in real-time so we can keep people moving […] We’re coordinating with Google’s emergency response team to prepare to close roads in Google Maps in real-time in the event that Hurricane Irma forces a closure of any roads in the aftermath of the storm.”

“If you need a hotel, go to Expedia.com/Florida,” he added. “Expedia is working on hotel occupancy in real-time.”
