WATCH: Trey Gowdy Slams Comey, Demands Answers Over Botched Hillary Probe

posted by Hannity Staff - 9.05.17

Rep. Trey Gowdy called-out former FBI director James Comey on Thursday over the bureau’s botched investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, saying there’s “sufficient factual basis” to drag Comey before Congress to answer key questions over the mishandled probe.

Gowdy was speaking with Fox News when he was asked to comment on the White House Press Secretary’s assertion that President Trump has been “vindicated” in his decision to remove Comey.

“[Sarah Huckabee Sanders] says the more she learns the more her boss is vindicated. Do you see it that way?” asked Fox News’ Bill Hemmer.

“I think that there were reasons to replace James Comey as the FBI director,” responded the GOP Rep. “I’ve had my differences with Jim Comey, he’s gone now, we have a new FBI director […] I’m very interested in talking to Jim Comey, not about how he left the FBI, but about some other decisions he made while he was the FBI director.

“Such as?” asked Hemmer.

“Well, if there’s anything that’s axiomatic in investigations it’s that you don’t make up your mind until you interview the last witness. It is beyond dispute that he made up his mind not to charge Secretary Clinton before he interviewed her; there’s no question about that,” said Gowdy.

“What my friends in the Senate have uncovered is may well have made up his mind before he interviewed the last dozen witnesses,” he added. “There’s sufficient factual basis to bring him in and ask him, ‘When did you make up your mind you’re not going to charge Secretary Clinton?'”
