Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in prison on Monday for sending sexually explicit pictures to an under-aged teenager in 2016; completing the liberal legislators fall from grace that began back in 2011.
According to the New York Post, the New York democrat and one-time Mayoral candidate was slapped with the nearly two-year long prison term, along with three years of supervised release and a $10,000 fine, and will turn himself into the court on November 6th.
“I was a very sick man for a very long time,” Weiner told Judge Denise Cote. “I was the adult…if I had done the right thing I would not be standing before you today.”
“This was a serious crime, and it’s a serious crime that deserves serious punishment,” said Cote. “There’s a uniform opinion by those who have examined him that he is an addict. He has a disease that (includes) sexual compulsivity. Some call it a sex addiction.”
“Steps are being taken…to limit his access to social media,” she added.
The 53-year old politician plead guilty earlier this year to “sexting” and “transmitting” sexually explicit images with a fifteen-year-old minor.
The liberal legislator had a stunning fall from grace in 2011 when he accidentally tweeted obscene photographs of himself; resulting in Weiner’s resignation from Congress later that year.
