A Gold Star family who lost their son in Afghanistan called-out liberal filmmaker Spike Lee during a town hall event on Wednesday night; asking the Hollywood celebrity why he supports “multi-millionaires” but not the “fallen heroes” who died for the country.
Lee was taking part in a CNN town hall event when the two parents pressed the filmmaker over his unwavering support for professional athletes who choose to disrespect the national anthem and the American flag; saying the protests were a “slap in the face to us.”
“How do you support these multi-millionaires on their knees, and don’t support what the fallen heroes died for?” asked the Gold Star father.
“I’m sorry for your loss, but the narrative that you spoke about is not true,” deflected Lee. “All these players have said, many many times, that they respect the armed forces,” Lee said. “They respect the flag. And they respect America. And this narrative that when they take a knee, it’s insulting your son who is no longer here, is not true. They’ve said that again, and again, and again.”
“When North Korea aims a missile at us, are these football players going to be on their knees, or are they going to support our veterans?” pressed the father.
