A new poll published on Friday shows the popularity of the National Football League halved after weeks of player protests during the national anthem; raising serious concerns for league officials, owners, and players over the future of the embattled sport.
The survey –conducted by Morning Consult- showed that amongst Trump supporters, the NFL’s “brand favorability” dropped to its lowest point in polling history; registering a measly 17% net favorability rating on September 28th.
The NFL’s previous net favorability rating was +30% on September 21st.
The staggering poll numbers has league proponents across the country on edge as sponsors begin weighing whether they should start pulling advertisements from future games. On Thursday, a major sponsor operating in over twenty states decided to pull their ads for the remainder of the football season.
The NFL came under fire last week after players decided to kneel during the playing of the national anthem, sparking outrage from football fans across the nation –including President Trump.
In response, the President called for a nationwide boycott of the NFL until league owners and managers changed their policies, banning player protests during the playing of the ‘Star-Spangled Banner.’
