Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Wednesday that his police department believes the gunman behind the worst mass shooting in American history “had some help” in planning his devastating rampage that left 59 people dead and over 500 injured.
According to CBS News, the Sheriff was speaking with reporters at a press briefing Wednesday evening when he was asked whether he believed Stephen Paddock, the sole suspect behind the devastating assault, acted alone.
“Do you think this was all accomplished on his own?” Lombardo asked reporters. “Self-value, face value, you got to make the assumption that he had to have had some help at some point. And we want to ensure that that’s the answer. Maybe he’s a super guy … [he] was working out all of this on his own. But it’d be hard for me to believe that.”
Lombardo later added that the shooter’s motives remain a mystery, saying investigators have spoken with multiple people close to Paddock who were able to shed little light on the gunman’s intentions.
“While we have already spoken to many people who have contacted with Stephen Paddock at hotels and places he frequented, we still have more interviews to conduct,” said the Sheriff.
