The House Oversight Committee will begin investigating the Obama administration’s controversial Uranium One deal; following reports that US officials knew in 2009 of Russia’s interference in the American nuclear industry, yet signed off on the agreement that placed nearly 20% of US uranium under Kremlin control, reports Fox News.
The shady deal -brokered during Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the US State Department- re-gained national attention last week when newly released FBI documents showed senior US officials, including former President Bill Clinton, sought meetings with Russian officials just before Barack Obama approved the agreement.
“I’ve spoken with the confidential informant that helped the FBI uncover this bribery scheme,” said Rep. DeSantis, a member of the House Oversight Committee. “Clearly, it’s in the public’s interest that this individual be able to tell his story to Congress.”
“It could be criminal,” he added.
Senate officials are also launching an investigation into Obama officials and their role in approving the deal. Last week, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley officially requested a probe of the Uranium One agreement during a hearing with Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
“This committee has an obligation to get to the bottom of this issue,” said Grassley.
